A local citizen witnessed firsthand how Shimla City is hit by traffic congestion due to wrongly parked vehicles. It true that there is lack of parking space at IGMC Shimla, but still, we all should be sensible in parking our vehicles around hospitals.
SHIMLA- A wrongly parked car on the road connecting main road to IGMC Shimla caused traffic jam on both sides. It was usual monotonous moments and everyone one was waiting for traffic jam to open somehow. The spell was broken by a couple of boys rushing through stuck cars and yelling to clear the way for an emergency case stuck in an Innova car.
For a moment everyone felt helpless and experienced an anxiety at the very thought that someone could die stuck in traffic jams. It took a few minutes to somehow clear the road and to eventually make way for the car.
Those couple of minutes were enough to make us realize what it feels like when you have a emergency patient who must be taken to hospital as soon as possible and you get stuck in a traffic jam – traffic jam caused by a wrongly parked car. On the top of that, eroded road edges, roadside potholes, uncovered and damaged drains further narrow roads, resulting in congestion.
The government is visionless. There is no parking at IGMC and people are forced to park vehicles anywhere there is space. The parking work at IGMC should be on the top of priority list. It’s about saving lives, and no excuse could justify HP Government’s failure in ensuring so. The CAG report read in HP Assembly clearly says the government didn’t utilize even half of the funds allocated to various government boards in financial year 2014-15 until March 2016. The government has spent about 65% of its budget in the month of March because they feared a lapse. The government had the money, but it did not spend it. In the last month of financial year they wasted it for the fear of lapse. That’s disgusting and shameful.
Despite the fact that lack of parking space leaves people with no option but to park vehicles at random places, it’s our appeal to people; please do not take any chance on this small link-road leading to IGMC. It may because you inconvenience, but good people can always make little sacrifices for such causes.
